The dude food trend

There have always been trends in-and-around food; Fondou, crème brulee, brunch, sushi, kale, everything organic, Paleo, etc…

And we are sure there will be many more to come. However, there is a trend that has piqued our interest, and that is the rise (and continuance) of the food trend known as ‘Dude Food’.

As you can probably tell by the name, the trend’s theme is deemed to be “male” orientated, by consisting mainly of meat (in its various forms and species) and anything else that is not exactly calorie friendly. Oh, we forgot to mention they may also be in proportions not recommended for normal humans.

Although it is called ‘Dude Food’, it is definitely not a gender exclusive trend.

Impos surveyed 400 business owners, workers, and managers in the hospitality sector to uncover what the sector believes will be hot and not. At the top of the list for food trends is locally sourced produce, which 44% of those surveyed believe is the hottest trend in food.

Coming in close behind is “dude food”. Dude food, according to New York Times’ food editor Sam Sifton, is “anything salty, fatty and crisp, with bro-tastic sweetness and wicked heat”. Of those surveyed, 33% tipped this bro-tastic and crisp trend would continue, meaning diners can expect to continue to see plenty of American-style burgers and BBQ over coming months, and maybe years.

Although no one would ever say that ‘Dude Food’ is a healthy trend, it is one that tries to celebrate the fun side of food, while putting aside the guilt for at least one meal. Dude Food is all about the ‘junkier’ types of food. Burgers, fried chicken, hot dogs, ribs, BBQ’d meats, onion rings, chips, nachos, ice cream sundaes, and the list goes on.

If your establishment is looking at delving in to the world of Dude Food by creating some truly mouth-watering burgers, or subs that would sink a ship, Bakers Maison has a range buns and rolls that are able to handle what you put in to them and on them.
