Bastille Day, to most is a celebration of all things French. Wine, cheeses, pastries, more cheeses and more wine - who wouldn’t want to celebrate that?
For those that don’t know, 14th July marks the day the Bastille was stormed by just under 1,000 anti-monarchists at the beginning of the revolution. However, celebrations would not begin for another 100 years and the day is more about celebrating national pride than political unrest.
So, in traditional Bakers Maison fashion, we’re preparing the Tricolore, polishing the glasses, warming up the ovens and putting out the welcome mat for everyone wanting to sample a taste of French freedom.
On the day, our King Street Café we will be serving:
The name is based on the verb croquer ("to bite") and the word monsieur ("mister"). Baked or fried, this delicious ham and cheese sandwich first appeared on French café menus in 1910, as a quick and easy snack.
Mini Cheese and Charcuterie Platters
Charcuterie (pronounced shär-kü-tə-rē) commonly consists of pate, rillettes, sausage and head cheese. Such gourmet delights can only be accompanied by a suite of exquisite French cheeses and crusty Bakers Maison breads. Check in store on the day to see what is available!
What better way to re-energise your day than with an espresso and selection of small sweets or desserts. Treat yourself in the name of all things French – we know we will be.
But that’s not where the fun ends!
All purchases made on the day will be entered in to the draw to win a Bakers Maison hamper full of bread, pastries and French food products to keep you comfortable through the blistering cold of this winter. To help you digest all the beautiful food, there will also be wine sampling on the day.
We hope you can find some time this Friday July 14th, 2017 to help us celebrate Bastille Day in style.
